Myrobalan (Terminalia chebula) is a yellow colour natural vegetable dye produced from the dried fruits of tree Terminalia chebula which is mainly found in the Himalayas. These dried fruits are first ground into a powder form which is a rich source of tannin and can be used both as a mordant and a dye for cotton and other plant fibres. Myrobalan is mainly used to dye cotton fabrics and gives a butter yellow colour. If can use dyeing it with indigo for teals and with madder for producing orange colour. Myrobalan has always been used as a primary component for cotton dyeing in India and is often employed as a mordant prior to creating brown and black on cotton fabrics.
